Spanning Time, Paintings in Wax
Join Crossroads Carnegie Art Center on First Friday, October 4th for the opening of Leah Svendsen and Will Roundy’s show “Spanning Time, Paintings in Wax.” Both artists are displaying encaustic artwork, each with their own style. They grew up together in Wallowa Valley and attended Kindergarten through High School together in Joseph and have remained close while running two businesses across the street from each other. This enduring friendship grew even stronger when they both studied with Shawn Moore in Whitefish, Montana and shared passion for encaustic artwork. This exhibit is on display till October 26th, 2024.
Leah Svendsen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland with a concentration in painting. Her work comments on time concepts, mostly the present moment, through representational works and is greatly inspired by her surroundings in the Wallowa Mountains. Leah’s business, a gallery and home décor shop, also houses her studio where she makes her encaustic work.
Will Roundy is the owner of beecrowbee in Joseph operating for the last 25 years where he makes bath and beauty products. His encaustic paintings are displayed throughout the store, making it an art gallery as well. His encaustic work explores time through color and ethereal abstraction.
Crossroads is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm, with the First Friday show opening continuing till 8 pm each month. For additional information please contact Angela Blair, Community Art Director at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center at angela@crossroads-arts.org or 541-523-5369.
