Baker City 150th Anniversary Celebration

August 9 - August 10

Residents and visitors alike can expect all kinds of fun activities for the whole family, as we celebrate 150 years as an incorporated city! There will be vendors, entertainment, and a car show at Geiser-Pollman Park. An art show, more music and other activities will take place in Central Park, ending with a street dance downtown, with music by Bag of Hammers.

MONDAY, AUGUST 5TH

Geiser Grand Hotel, 1996 Main St., Baker City
2:30pm – 3:00pm: Get the real inside story on Baker City’s fabulous gold rush past from the hotel historian. You’ll see breathtaking details, bullet holes, and windows into the old tunnels. You’ll hear crazy, but true tales of the Wild West. Tickets are $5 and no charge for overnight guests. For groups of 8 – 20 people please call for an appointment.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6TH

Baker County Fairgrounds, 2600 East St, Baker City
Baker County Fair, 6:30am – 9:00pm: 4-H/FFA Market, Open Class Weigh-in, Small Animal Check-in, Fair Opens to Public, Family Game Night, 4-H/FFA Dairy Cattle & Beef Breeding Classes.

Baker County Fair, 7:30am – 9:00pm: 4-H/FFA Leader Meeting, Judging followed by Poultry Showmanship, Fair Opens to Public, 4-H/FFA Swine Conformation, 4-H/FFA Dairy Goat, Market Goat Conformation, 4-H Rabbit Showmanship, 4-H/FFA Market Sheep Conformation, 4-H/FFA Small Animal Round Robin, Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, Beer Corral Opens.

Live music, 4:40pm – 5:30pm Get ready for an electrifying performance by local artist Mitchell Paul Stephens. 6:00pm – 9:00pm, admission is FREE! Known for his powerful voice and captivating stage presence, Jordan Shaw will bring great music and fantastic vibes to the fair.

Vendors in the Park, 12:00pm – 9:00pm: It will feature a variety of activities and attractions, including live music, vendors, food booths. The event brings the community together to celebrate Baker City’s rich history.

Live music, 4:00pm – 6:00pm: Baker City’s own Frank Carlson has been entertaining audiences for many years. He is one of the early volunteers who helped to raise money for the Powder River Pavilion by donating his performance time. His music ranges from the oldies of the ‘50s and ‘60s to hits of the ‘70s and ‘80s to traditional and modern country. A fan-favorite of Baker City residents, Frank plays often around town for various organizations.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10TH

Geiser-Pollman Park, 1700 Campbell St., Baker City
Pop-up Car Show, 8:00am – 12:00pm, organized by Baker City Show and Shine. Contact Jeron, 541-310-8788, for information about participating in the car show.
Vendors in the park from 8am to 2pm. Coffee and Doughnuts. Yoga in the park. Live music by John Bear.

LOCAL ENTERTAINMENT & RECREATION FAVORITES

Eltrym Theater, 1809 First St, Baker City, Oregon
Myrtle married Frank Buckmiller and together with her son, Freeman Geddes, they operated Baker Theaters Co., owning the Clarick, Empire, and Orpheum theaters in Baker City. The Clarick Theatre burned down in 1937, prompting Myrtle to build the Eltrym Theater, which opened in 1940 in her honor. Myrtle passed away in January 1940, and the family business continued to operate successfully for a few years, with the Orpheum being rebuilt after a fire in 1943 and later sold along with the Eltrym and Empire theaters in 1950. The Eltrym underwent several renovations, with major upgrades in 1997 and a transformation into a tri-plex by 2003. Dan and Teresa McQuisten purchased the theater in 2008 and continue to improve it. Borderlands, Cuckoo and It Ends With Us to open August 9th.
