the Sumpter Valley Railroad

When visiting Baker County, be sure to add the Sumpter Valley Railroad to your travel plans. History comes to life aboard this vintage railroad as you travel through the heart of gold country in the scenic Sumpter Valley.  Reservations and online ticket sales for the season now available online HERE.

The train runs excursions between McEwen and the historic mining town of Sumpter, where the Sumpter station is located in the Sumpter Dredge State Park, providing passengers a chance to tour the Sumpter Dredge and even try their luck panning for gold before the return trip to McEwen.

The Sumpter Valley Railroad is open selected weekends and major holidays, typically Memorial Day Weekend through the last weekend in September. Round trips take just over two hours, including layover.

The railroad also hosts a number of special excursions and events including the Starlight Express, train robberies, fall foliage and photographer trains, and the annual Christmas Trains with Santa. Private charters and special events are also available April through December, depending on equipment and crew availability.
