An Evening with Leanne Grabel w/ Jerry Bobbe and Steve Sander

June 15, 2023, 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM PDT

Spoken-Word Artist/Performance Poet/Writer Leanne Grabel brings her unique trio to Baker City on Thursday, June 15. Backed up by her own digital keyboard beats, classical cellist extraordinaire Jerry Bobbe and vocal magician Steve Sander, Grabel presents her lyrical narratives about the hard and hilarious moments of life. She has been called brilliant, ingenious and the bravest writer writing today.

Recipient of the 2020 Bread and Roses Award for contributions to women’s literature in the Pacific Northwest, Grabel has been a leading voice of the Pacific Northwest’s poetry scene for the past 45 years. Bobbe, who will open the show, adds rich texture with his classical cello accompaniment; and Grabel’s husband Steve Sander, who will also open the set with his original music, is able to mimic any sound imaginable, adding harmony and humor.

Grabel’s graphic novel/memoir Brontosaurus Illustrated about a college rape and its aftereffects over the past 50 years was published by the Opiate Books in July 2022, and her book of illustrated prose poems about her long marriage to Sander, My Husband’s Eyebrows, was published in November 2022 by The Poetry Box. Grabel is currently working on a stand-up routine and illustrated book about aging, an excerpt of which will be published in the spring issue of Oregon Humanities Magazine online.
