First Friday Exhibit at Crossroads Art Center

February 2, 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM PST

Join Crossroads Carnegie Art Center on First Friday, February 2, for the opening of February’s show titled “Crafted Horizons: Exploring Nature Through Wood and Lens.” This show features the fine art of local artists David Mespelt (wood sculptor) and Caleb Colton (photographer), joined in a show that celebrates the natural world around us. The First Friday reception starts at 5 p.m., with the artist’ talk at 5:30 p.m. This exhibit is on display until February 24th.

  • A native of North Powder, Caleb Colton brings his eye to the camera and captures the beauty of the nature that surrounds us. His stunning images captivate the beholder with his raw and awe-inspiring landscapes. Caleb is 4th generation to be raised on the family cattle ranch and has witnessed both the fragility and power of nature. The interplay of light, shadow, and color creates a visual poetry and celebrates our rich mountains and valleys, rivers and lakes, eliciting a sense of wonder, solitude, and harmony through his images. Caleb invites the viewer on a visual journey with his exquisite photography and shares his passion of our beautiful country.
  • Baker City native, Mespelt has been woodworking for 52 years. He was mostly self-taught after taking woodshop classes in Baker Middle and High Schools. “Most of the time, I like to make something just out of my head with no plans. I’ll have an idea, but the wood can change it halfway through.” He likes to keep his finishes clear so the beauty of the wood comes through. “The finished pieces have a shape, but the wood is what makes them beautiful.”

Crossroads is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the First Friday show opening continuing till 8 p.m. each month.
