Sumpter has access to hundreds of miles of groomed trails in the breathtaking Elkhorn Mountains of Eastern Oregon! And....in most cases, you can hit the trails right from your lodging!
In Halfway, the main trail heads right up into the Wallowa Mountains north of town and ends at Twin Lakes in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest at near 7,000 feet elevation.
From Unity you can explore the Burnt River Canyon, and the Elkhorn mountains while enjoying some of Eastern Orgon's most spectacular winter scenery.

Local clubs also host a number of snowmobiling events each year including annual snowmobile poker runs in Sumpter and Halfway on Presidents Day Weekend.
The Sumpter Snowmobile Poker Run is always the Saturday of Presidents Day Weekend and the Halfway Panhandle Snowmobile Club's Poker Run is always the Sunday of Presidents Day weekend, making this the perfect three day winter weekend for exploring the Elkhorn and Wallowa mountains of Eastern Oregon on your snowmobile.
